Gateway to the West

On our way from Indiana to Arkansas, we stopped in St. Louis to visit Gateway Arch National Park, where we met up with our friend Claire!

The Gateway Arch is the tallest arch in the world and the tallest monument in the Western Hemisphere. It was completed in 1965, and it’s suppose to represent Thomas Jefferson’s vision of building a unified continental nation and St. Louis’ role as a gateway to the west. It became a national park in 2018.

It’s a bit of an odd national park considering that most national parks are typically huge areas of natural wilderness, but we still had a good time visiting!

Gateway Arch National Park

Since the park is so small, the main things to do are walk around the park grounds, visit the exhibits in the museum, and ride the tram to the top of the arch (which is a pretty good adventure!). Claire took amazing pictures of us at the arch and it was so fun to hang out with her.
