On our way from Boston to Acadia, we made a two-day stop in Portland, Maine. We loved this city, it was full of lighthouses, beautiful views and charming homes.
Including Portland, Baxter State Park, and Bar Harbor
Acadia is one of our all time favorite national parks that we’ve been to. It features adventurous hikes along side the beautiful Maine cliff side.
We stayed in an Airbnb inside the national park boundaries, which is a rare occurrence. We went hiking most days after work and loved living so close to the coast line.

Cadillac Mountain is one of the top things to do in the Acadia National Park. It’s the highest point in the park so it provides amazing views of whole park. Many people go for sunrise, but we decided to go for sunset instead, which we loved.
The Beehive is an adventurous hike up a steep rock outcropping, similar to a via ferrata experience. The views at the top was the highlight of our time in Acadia. We combined it with the Gorham Mountain trail to make an awesome loop hike.
Jordan Pond is one of the main lakes to visit within Acadia. When we visited, it was unfortunately quite foggy but it did create a moody atmospheric vibe. We also combined this hike with the Bubbles, which are two small mountains that overlook Jordan Pond.
The Carriage roads were made throughout the park in the early 1900s to help people get around the park by carriage. Nowadays, it serves as great bike paths that take you into interior areas of the park. We rented e-bikes and rode around the majority of the carriage roads, which was one of our favorite things we did in Acadia.
This one of our favorite hikes we did. The coastal cliff sides were amazing, and we descended the Great Head trail right at sunset, which was beautiful over Sand Beach.
We went on a day cruise along the Maine coastline to see puffins and lighthouses. Unfortunately the puffins had mostly all migrated away at the time of our cruise, but it was still beautiful nonetheless and the lighthouses were awesome.
A collection of pictures from other great Acadia hikes.
This is a classic lobster restaurant that we went to. We don’t love seafood but it was an authentic experience that we couldn’t pass up!
Trevor went to Baxter State Park over a weekend to hike Mount Katahdin, the highest mountain in Maine. It was a truly epic experience and he made friends with some Appalachian Trail hikers along the way!
